GEORGI DIMITROV took his first lessons in playing the violin with the well-known violin teacher B. Rosenberg. In 1971 he graduated from the Bulgarian State Conservatory – Sofia with special subject Orchestra Conducting lectured by Professor Vladi Simeonov, and Violin Playing lectured by Professor M. Balkanski. He specialized with Eugeni Mravinski and Arvid Jansons in Sankt Peterburg.

In the period 1972-1981 he was Conductor of the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 1981-1985 – Chief Conductor of the Opera in Ruse. Until 1990 he was Director of the Ruse Opera and Conductor of the Sofia Opera. In the period 1990-1995 he was Conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Republic of San Marino.

He has led all Bulgarian orchestras and performed as visiting conductor of numerous famous orchestras and opera theatres in Russia, Romania, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Cuba, Mexico, Spain, etc.

Since the 1995/1996 season Georgi Dimitrov has been Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, later renamed to Opera-and-Philharmonic Society – Plovdiv, and realized a great number of projects, tours within the country and abroad, as well as the opening of the European Month of Culture broadcasted live by Eurovision.

Georgi Dimitrov is Director of the Opera-and-Philharmonic Society – Plovdiv.
